"borders bubble"
“Grenzblasen”, 2007
Old border post at German-Belgian border near Aachen
Soap bubble machine, soap bubble fluid, red fabric
Where for decades customs officials sat on both sides of the border post and through small round trap windows asked entering and outgoing passengers for their documents and after their business, two soap bubble machines took their place in a temporary installation.
For six weeks the machines did their work, blowing soap bubbles along both sides of the street.
This poetic installation uses the lightness, elusiveness and fleetingness of soap bubbles to facilitate a humorous dialogue with old control systems at borders.
