Lenten veil “light disguised“
Lenten veil “light disguised“
Contribution to “ars liturgica“ competition,
Diocese Essen 2012/13
Where a “Lenten veil“ is traditionally used to cover
the tabernacle and choir during Lent,
the idea of the Lenten veil “light disguised“is to
fill the area around the altar with purple light instead,
the color of Lent.
By adding LED spots to the sides of the chancel,
the front part of the church is illuminated with purple light.
The crucifixion group and tabernacle can still be seen,
are not covered as tradition demands.
The purple light does, however, reduce everything in the chancel
to outlines and silhouettes.
The different view of what we are used to see (there) creates tension.
Seen in a different light, the familiar seems strange
and allows for new insights.
